The milk itself doesn't remain in liquid form, and it isn't visible as "milk" in the finished piece - what you're left with is Milkstone, a colour and finish born from it, set the way any stone or material would be.

We call these ingredients Traces - the small, meaningful materials a piece is built around. Breastmilk is one Trace among several people choose to work with; others include a lock of hair, a birthstone, or a birth flower, often combined with the breastmilk itself.

How much breastmilk do I need to send?

Only a small amount is required - ideally around 5–10ml (we can work with less if needed).

Does breastmilk jewellery smell or spoil over time?

 No - once your milk is transformed into Milkstone, it's no longer in a raw or liquid state, so it doesn't spoil the way fresh milk would. Milkstone is water resistant (though not waterproof, so it's best removed for bathing, swimming, or washing up), and like any natural material, it can shift very slightly in colour with prolonged sun or UV exposure over the years. That gentle change is part of its character rather than a sign of aging badly.

How long does breastmilk jewellery last?

With reasonable care, your Milkstone piece is made to last for years, even decades. The Traces and Tones themselves are made from real, natural elements, so - like the metal it's set in - some gentle change over time is part of the nature of the piece, not a flaw. Gold won't tarnish, while sterling silver may need occasional cleaning to stay at its best.
